Lloyd scored six points and grabbed ten rebounds, but the Washington Capitols lost 78-70 to the Rochester Royals. He was not the first Black player drafted, but his team opened its season first, a day before Chuck Cooper of the Boston Celtics took the court.

Lloyd later won a title with the Syracuse Nationals in 1955 and entered the Naismith Hall of Fame in 2003.
