A group of pupils from the Massimo d'Azeglio classical high school in Turin, among them Eugenio and Enrico Canfari, founded Sport-Club Juventus. The name is Latin for "youth". The exact day is not known, and November 1, 1897 is the traditional date.
The club first played in pink and black. From the 1901-02 season it switched to black and white stripes, inspired by the English club Notts County.
