The game was played in New Brunswick, New Jersey, with 25 players on each side and about 100 spectators. The rules were closer to soccer than to today's football: players could kick the ball or bat it with their hands, but could not carry or throw it.
Each goal counted as one point, and the first team to six won. Princeton won the rematch a week later, 8-0. Over the following decades the game changed into the American football played today.
