Creating Your First Event
- Open Herodotus - On This Day → Add New.
- Enter a title, for example The Moon Landing, and write the event content.
- In the Herodotus Date metabox, click the date field and choose July 20.
- Enter 1969 in Year. Leave the era blank or select AD if you want that suffix displayed.
- Optionally add a featured image, excerpt and event category.
- Click Publish.
The event is now available at its own URL. A date-based listing will show it each July 20, subject to the selected filters and limit.
Understanding the Date Fields

| Month | Yes | Month, 1-12 |
| Year | Yes | Historical year, chronological sorting and anniversary counter |

Display Your Event
Add this to a page using a Shortcode block:

To check the example on a different day, an active Pro installation can use a fixed date:
[herodotus date="07-20"]
Additional Event Fields in Pro
Pro adds Priority Event, Upcoming Event, source and location fields. A historical event should only be announced ahead of its recurring date when you enable Upcoming Event. See Date Metabox, sources and locations and date modes and upcoming ranges.
