Installation
From WordPress Admin (Recommended)
- Go to Plugins → Add New in your WordPress admin.
- Search for "Herodotus".
- Click Install Now, then Activate.
Manual Upload
- Download the plugin ZIP file from WordPress.org.
- Go to Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin.
- Choose the ZIP file and click Install Now.
- Activate the plugin.
Via FTP
- Extract the ZIP file.
- Upload the entire
herodotusfolder to/wp-content/plugins/. - Go to Plugins in WordPress admin and activate Herodotus.
After Activation
Once activated, you will see a new menu item in your admin sidebar:
Herodotus - On This Day
This menu contains:
- All Posts - list of all your historical events
- Add New - create a new event
- Categories - manage event categories
Open Herodotus - On This Day → Settings to configure the plugin.

Install and Activate Pro
- Install and activate Herodotus Free first.
- Download the Pro ZIP from your purchase email or Customer Dashboard.
- Open Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin, select the Pro ZIP, install it and activate it.
- Use the licence activation screen to activate your licence, or start the offered trial.
- Keep both plugins active. An installed but unlicensed Pro add-on does not enable its modules.
If the licence or trial expires, Pro stays installed but stops adding its features. The site continues with the free plugin. Manage purchases, downloads and subscriptions in the Customer Dashboard.
Updating Both Components
Back up the site before updating. Update Free and Pro together when a release requires a matching free version. The responsive image fix in Pro 1.6.8 requires Free 1.6.8 or newer. Replacing only Pro cannot repair image markup generated by an older Free installation.
After an update, clear the plugin cache under Herodotus - On This Day → Settings → Advanced → Clear Cache Now, then clear any page cache and CDN cache.
